Global Shapers Alexandria Egypt Hub, August 30th, 2015 – Last month, the World Economic Forum hosted the Annual Curators Meeting (ACM) 2015 for the Global Shapers in Geneva, Switzerland. The gathering of more than 450 Global Shapers along with 400 Young Global Leaders (YGLs), was designed to make sure the voice of young leaders is included in the debate on how to address a range of global challenges that include Climate Change, the future of the internet, social businesses for positive change and social inclusion.

The meeting focused on the vision, values and culture of the Shapers community and aimed to ensure the success and sustainability of each Hub and the greater network. It included a wide range of plenary sessions and workshops. Participants also took part in a wide array of activities designed to

make a positive impact on the host city of Geneva.

The Global Shapers Community is a local hubs network based in more than 450 cities around the world. Global Shapers are young leaders between 20 and 30 years old. The leader of each Hub is called the “Curator” and has a one-year tenure. This year, the ACM brought in participants from 169 different countries from across business, government, academia, media and civil society backgrounds.

Now that Jabak is back from Geneva, she is excited to share and pour all the ideas she worked on there. She is also looking to find Alexandria’s most brilliant, creative, passionate, diverse young leaders and change-makers to apply for a spot in the Alexandria Global Shapers Hub. The Alexandria Hub members are young people with hopes, ideas, and a strong will to make a difference in their communities. They represent all walks of life and share a spirit of entrepreneurship in the global public interest.

MBA and PMP-holder Reem Jabak represented Egypt’s local hub and was among those 450+

young leaders who voiced out their opinions in Geneva.

Young people are greatly under-represented in global affairs, even though they make up 50% of the world’s population. As innovators, digital natives and those most impacted by today’s policy decisions, they deserve a seat at the table. Global Shapers embody the “community of the future”; bringing together young people in a diverse, decentralized, and digitally hyper- connected way. The Global Shapers Community is an initiative of the World Economic Forum and is independent, neutral, non-political and not for profit.

The Alexandrian hub is now working on new ideas and projects including those on maintaining the inherent heritage of Alexandria, Make Them Smile and sensitizing the Alexandrian citizens on societal challenges and solutions. This is an amazing opportunity to be connected to the World Economic Forum and to be a part of a Global Network of leaders. More than that, it is also an opportunity to be of service and passionately contribute to causes bigger than just ourselves in a team setting.
