Grammys

Last night, the world of music celebrated its biggest night of the year; The Grammys!

The 61st Grammy Awards was, as usual, filled with jaw-dropping, teeth-grinding, heart-warming and mind-blowing moments.

One thing pretty much everyone agreed on, it was way too long to keep up with.

Of course, as much as you don’t want to waste hours and hours of your time, you still don’t want to miss out on music’s biggest night of the year.

Not to worry, we got you covered. We got you the Grammys in a capsule, enjoy!

The Grammys Opening

From the very first second, you could tell that this year’s Grammys is going to be different! Hint: This year, the Grammys were all about QUEENS!

The 2019 Grammy awards ruled by women, something that was severely lacking in last year’s Grammys.

For starters, It was hosted by none other than 15-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys who, of course, did a splendid job may I add!

And right at the beginning of the show, Alicia got everyone on their feet when she brought “some of her sisters” onto the stage.

Just so it happens, her “sisters” were also some of the most powerful, most successful, most important women in the entertainment industry and the entire world; Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Lopez, and everyone’s favorite first lady, Michelle Obama!

Along with Alicia Keys, they all took center stage talking about what music represents to them and what it has done for them along the year. Which, naturally resulted in deafening applause from everyone in the audience, we even caught a few tears!

The Tributes

This year’s Grammys made sure to honor some of the world’s biggest music icons. Therefore, we had some pretty nostalgic and heart-warming tributes to enjoy.

Aretha Franklin Tribute

Another strong women moment was when Andra Day, Fantasia and Yolanda Adams took our breaths away with an absolutely mesmerizing rendition of soul legend Aretha Franklin‘s hit song “You Make Me Feel Like A Woman”.

Dolly Parton Tribute

Another equally heart-warming, yet not as heart-breaking tribute performance was when country music legend Dolly Parton took stage joined by over a dozen of her friends, admirers, and music stars such as Katy PerryMaren MorrisKacey Musgraves, and, of course, Dolly’s god-daughter Miley Cyrus.

Our favorite moment was when Dolly and Miley sang their hearts out to the tunes of Dolly’s famous hit “Jolene“.

The Firsts

This year, the Grammys had a lot of firsts and a lot of fresh faces took the stage in a true dear-diary-moment.

1. Korean K-pop boy band BTS made Grammy history last night as the First Korean Act to present at the Grammy awards.

2. British young artist Dua Lipa took home her first Grammy Award as Best New Artist of the year.

3. Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” made history as the first rap song win Grammys for song and record of the year.

Which would’ve been so much better if he had actually shown up at the Grammys!

4. Another ‘Grammy-history’ moment was created when Cardi B won a Grammy for Best Rap Album on her debut album, “Invasion of Privacy”. Which makes Cardi the first female solo artist to win this award.

The Speeches

The 61st Grammys stage witnessed some seriously amazing speeches! Granted, some of them were quite too long, but some of them were really worth watching till the end; here are some:

1. Lady Gaga’s Speech

Lady Gaga had a big night last night. She won, not one, not two, but three Grammys! Her third win was a particularly emotional one, though.

When Gaga took the stage to accept the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her and Bradley Cooper’s hit song “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, she got very emotional as she shared a very powerful and important message about mental health issues, especially in the artistic community.

“I just want to say I’m so proud to be a part of a movie that addresses mental health issues. They’re so important,” Gaga said while tears of joy streamed down her face.

2. Cardi B’s Speech

The rapper who is known for always being on top of her diva game, got extremely emotional and shakey when she heard her name being called out as the winner for best rap album of the year.

“Babe, I can’t breathe!” she said as she held onto her husband Offset‘s hand trying so hard to collect herself.

It was so endearing and heart-warming that even the non-Cardi B fans were enjoying watching her have her moment in the sun.

3. Dua Lipa’s Speech

As we mentioned earlier, this year, the Grammys were ruled by women, FINALLY! And despite being emotional accepting the trophy for Best New Artist, Dua Lipa did not waste this opportunity to point out the change this year.

In the opening of her acceptance speech, she said: “I guess where I want to begin is by saying how honored I am to be nominated alongside so many incredible female artists.”

She then topped that off by saying “I guess this year, we really stepped up.

All we have to say is; DAMN, young queen!

Drake’s Speech

Not all speeches were happy and cheery, some took a very wrong turn, best of all was Drake’s.

Despite the fact that he won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance, Drake’s entire acceptance speech was basically a dissing track shading the Grammys and talking about how this Award is just so insignificant. The worst part came when he was cut off mid-sentence!

 Yikes!

The Fashion

As any red carpet event, something we all religiously wait for is the red carpet fashion. Not necessarily because the fashion there is good, fashion police wannabes will relate. So here are some of the best & worst fashion “choices” from the Grammys red carpet:

Top WOW look: Jennifer Lopez & Lady Gaga

We tried to choose, we really did, but it was too darn hard, so those two divas will just have to split this award together. Because they both just look equally and ridiculously stunning!

Top meh look: Camila Cabello

Because we are used to seeing the “Havana” star looking absolutely stunning, this look was somewhat of a disappointment to us. We got nothing against the pink, it just doesn’t feel as firey hot, as we know Camilla is capable of.

Top NO NO look:

Political views aside, we are not sure this outfit will make anything great again, not just America…

Top WTH look: Katy Perry

Okay, what in God’s name is happening here? Unless the “Roar” star meant to look like a bloated pimple, something went very, very wrong!

Here you go! Now you know everything there is to know about 2019 music’s biggest night without having to waste what felt like an eternity out of your life. You are welcome…
