Let’s talk about the not-so obvious heartbreak, the first crack in the glass. When your partner isn’t your biggest fan. They’re not mean, they’re not discouraging or critical of you, yet they’re not clapping. Not hyping. Not there when you need that “YES YOU CAN” energy.
You start to wonder whether it’s all in your head or if your sixth sense is just getting better. So before you spiral, here’s your non-dramatic, objective guideline to spot the signs:
1- They Go on Silent Mode When You Shine
When you finally land that opportunity you were so excited about and they react with just “nice” then immediately change the subject to how they had a busy day. Sure, not everyone’s got that cheerleader energy but basic enthusiasm is free.
2- They Call You “Ambitious” Too Much
They start making you feel like your ambition makes your life together stressful. They send you on a guilt trip for being “too busy” or “prioritizing your career over your relationship with them”. Whether it’s insecurity, control, or good ol’ jealousy, that’s not your problem to fix.
3- They Only Cheer You On When It Benefits Them
When you succeed and they say things like: “That’s amazing… imagine how this will help us” or “Now you can take us on that trip.” We love to share the wins with our loved ones, but if they only show up when they profit, not when we struggle and grow, that’s a fan of the benefits, not the journey.
4. They Downplay Your “Little Wins” (That Aren’t So Little to You)
When you’ve mastered that tough pitch, finalized your first deal with a client or even just survived a job burnout, and they hit you with a dry “cool” or even worse – a sarcastic “you’re not the only one”, this is definitely not being chill, that’s disinterest. If we’re being real, celebrating your little wins matters…..BIG TIME!
