Pole Fit Egypt, a new and exciting concept, has been in Egypt for a short while, and yet has already acquired a fan base. PFE relishes in the concept that a woman’s body is beautiful and that it should be used to empower her, and while pole dancing isn’t the most conventional form of dance, it certainly had us intrigued! We spoke to Manar El Mokadem, the young lady behind Pole Fit Egypt.

WHAT EXACTLY IS POLE FIT EGYPT?
PFE is the first pole studio in Egypt. It is a space where women can connect with their feminine being and express themselves freely and comfortably using their physique.

As one of our members says, “We are one big, awesome, happy family. It is the only exercise that gets you heaped up on smiles.”

POLE DANCING HAS ITS NEGATIVE CONNOTATIONS, HAS THIS IMPACTED PFE, HAVE YOU RECEIVED CRITICISM?
We have not been directly criticized, however everything in the world is open to criticism. Pole is still a fairly new concept; it is natural for people to automatically relate to what they already know. This is why PFE and the International Pole Community have taken the responsibility of showing people poles in a different form. The Olympics have even recognized Pole as a sport this year.

IS POLE DIFFICULT TO LEARN?
It really isn’t, for a beginner. Anyone can pole; you would be very surprised at what your body can already do.

DO PEOPLE HAVE TO HAVE A CERTAIN BODY TYPE, AGE, OR WEIGHT IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO PARTAKE IN POLE?
There are absolutely no fitness prerequisites or any age, size or shape limitations!

WE’VE ALL SEEN THOSE AMAZING YOUTUBE VIDEOS OF PEOPLE LIKE JENNYNE BUTTERFLY (ARTISTIC POLE DANCER). IS THAT WHAT POLE MEMBERS CAN HOPE TO ACHIEVE BY THE END OF PFE’S CLASSES?
PFE is a pole school. The more you attend, the more we teach you, the further and faster you develop. It is all about perseverance.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO PURCHASE POLES IN EGYPT?
Our studio only uses X-Pole poles. We only use and recommend them as they are of extreme high quality and are built and tested for acrobatic pole. It is essential that the apparatus is of high quality and a good brand due to the nature of the activity. You can purchase them online. We do occasionally take special orders.
