We’ve all seen the romantic comedy “How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days” by the beautiful Kate Hudson and dashing Matthew McConaughey. Kate Hudson’s character deliberately sets out to make all the classic mistakes that are known to make men run the other way. I don’t exactly believe that there is a set of gender subjected mistakes you shouldn’t do on dates. I believe that there are things no one should do regardless of their sex. But for the sake of humour, I’ll play along! Here are 7 ways guys could guarantee that the girl will lose interest!
1- Talking about himself too much
We get it; you’ve done a lot of achievements in your life and you are super cool and like to brag about how awesome you are. But, going on a date means that there are two people there. Two people who are equally interested in one another. So, it’s only natural that they should both reciprocate the curiosity in each other.
2- Insulting her friends
A girl WILL get defensive if a guy starts insulting her friends. If she starts talking about her girlfriends, then they definitely mean a lot to her and a guy making fun of them will definitely be a turn off.
3- Comparing her to his exes
Sharing stories about past relationships is a necessary part of every healthy relationship. However, at the very beginning of new ones, girls don’t like it when guys tell them you’re not like my ex. Even if it’s in her favour. Just no! It makes her think like she’s still on his mind and that he’s trying to beat her by finding someone better! But if she asks, then go ahead and share!
4- Insulting his exes
We’ve all done it! We’ve all badmouthed our exes because we were still angry over the breakup. But once the anger subsides, we realize how immature that was. So, when guys start insulting their exes in front of their date, it makes them realize that he’s immature. And that he’ll probably badmouth them too if it didn’t work out! Nope, don’t need that. Thank you.
5- If he’s rude to the waiter/waitress
This is just rude. It’s not manly to be rude to those who can’t talk back. Nice will get you a long way!
6- If he spends the entire time of the date texting
We all have lives that we need to attend to. If you have an emergency, then excuse yourself and answer the phone. But, it’s not acceptable to text in the middle of a conversation.
7- Telling her she’s not like all the other girls
Guys sometimes think that this is a compliment but the truth is, it really isn’t. What does being different than all the other girls mean? It’s a backhanded compliment. You insult her entire gender, but tell her she’s not like them. What does that make her? This just reinforces girly stereotypes and in no way makes her feel more desirable or elevated. It just puts other girls down. If you want to compliment her, then point out something unique you noticed about her.
FYI, girls are not put off if you don’t pay the check. And girls won’t think you’re a gentleman if you open the car door for her. You also don’t necessarily have to pick her up. She might like to pick you up instead. Just be yourself on dates and have fun! Unless of course yourself means doing one of the 7 no-no’s listed above.
