Mohamed Farag

Every Ramadan, we glue ourselves to our TVs (or our laptop screens, to each their own) and it’s safe to say we watch a whole lot of TV shows. And every year, without fail, there’s always one actor that delivers a performance that gets everybody talking and praising.

This year is no different. And now that it has been a while, we all know that this season’s It Actor is none other than Mohamed Farag. And if you need a reminder, let these four performances remind you why!

El-Ekhteyar

Although Mohamed Farag is a lead character in two Ramadan shows this year, the first time we saw him on our TVs since the start of the season was probably on episode one of El-Ekhteyar, in which he guest-stars as Shaker, an engineer who joins a terrorist organization.

And as interesting as seeing Farag and Karim Abdelaziz reinstate the dynamic of an officer and an accused in reverse this time, it was just as interesting seeing Shaker go from quietly confident to progressively more scared and put-on-the-spot as time went on. It was this quiet acting that gripped us across our screens.

Ded El-Kasr

For the first lead role we see Mohamed Farag take on, we see him play Karim, an insecure, increasingly paranoid man whose wife Salma, played by Nelly Karim, gets bludgeoned in the head and falls into a coma. And it doesn’t take too long for us to see that Karim is actually a prime suspect. See, easily suspicious Karim suspected Salma of cheating on him…all while he was cheating on her.

Of course, as things develop, we see that everything isn’t as it seems but so far only one thing stands. Karim is one of the most compelling characters on Ded El-Kesr and that’s a testament to a strong, fleshed out performance by Farag of a character with severe parental resentments that he inadvertently lets ruin his life.

Le3bet Newton

Perhaps Mohamed Farag’s performance of the year, Mo’nes in Le3bet Newton is a character that will have you on edge every time he comes onto screen for several reasons. With his mysterious intentions, Mo’nes goes from being genuinely kind to being secretive and manipulative, somewhat bordering on “cult leader”….right until he does something that shows that he’s a little bit stupid.

And yet, Mo’nes also has a lot to his character beneath the surface and all of that unexplored depth makes his character more and more sinister to the viewers as we try to figure out just how good or bad is he.

Khaly Balak Min Zizi

Flexing his range, Mohamed Farag continues to show us just why he’s among the best of the best actors this Ramadan season. He went from playing a terrorist to a jealous cheating husband to a sinister man who’s not who he seems to…a neurotic acting coach on Khaly Balak Min Zizi.

Easily one of the best guest spots this season, Farag is a joy to watch on screen as he embodies the coach’s neurotic tendencies and sharp-edged artistic personality through the screen. And honestly? It’s one guest spot we did not want to end.

With this vast range explored, it’s safe to say that if we did have a Ramadan Oscar, Mohamed Farag would easily win it!
