As they have always been connected to age, we mostly see wrinkles in our mothers, grandparents and even ourselves as we grow older. We automatically resort to very pricey skin creams and treatments in order to avoid them as they start emerging, sometimes even before. We, thereby present to you what exactly how they form, why they form, and how to protect yourselves against them.

How Wrinkles Form

The skin consists of three main layers:

1. The epidermis, which is the outer skin layer that is made of hardened skin cells and is the protective layer of the body.

2. The dermis, which mainly contains collagen and gives the skin elasticity.

3. And the hypodermis, which is the innermost layer and consists mostly of fat.

Wrinkles form on the outer two layers, the epidermis and dermis. On one hand, the epidermis starts thinning and losing ability to hold moisture in and thereby starts creating fine lines. On the other hand, the dermis collagen deteriorates and loses the ability to support the skin. That’s when those horrid wrinkles start taking over.
