Ready or not, the 42nd edition of Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) is almost here. Starting on December 2nd and ending on the 10th, here are the 16 international movies set to premiere and compete at the festival!

Mo Er Dao Ga (China)

Directed by Jinling Cao and marks the first film to be shot in the Mongolian dense forestry of Moer Daoga, the film is all about the man vs. nature theme and is said to be quite an interesting take on the relationship between the two!

German Lessons (Bulgaria)

Directed by Pavel G. Vesnakov, this is the second film on the list. A story about a middle-aged guy named Nicola who is determined on making amends with everyone before leaving his country Germany.

Curfew

Directed by our very own Amir Ramses, Curfew with Elham Shaheen and Amina Khalil is also among the selections!

On the Fence (Egypt)

Directed by Nesrine El Zayat, the documentary follows three girls embarking on a journey to break through the barriers.

Had El Tar (KSA)

Directed by Abdelaziz Al Shlahei, the film follows the star-crossed lovers’ relationship between a fencer and a wedding singer within a conservative society.

Autumn of the Apples (Morocco)

Mohamed Mouftaker’s film will also be landing its international premiere at the festival’s 42nd edition.

TV Society (Lebanon)

This Lebanese film is said to be quite controversial.

A Siege Diary (Russia)

By director Andrei Zaitsev, part of the the film takes place during World War II around the large Russian city of Leningrad.

Sideshow (UK)

This will be the film’s world premiere. It follows two criminals as they embark on a new crime. However, things take a very dark turn!

Back to Wharf (China)

A man attempts to repent, but his shady past will make that challenging!

Three short films will have their world premiere among the “Cinema of Tomorrow”:

  • The Man Who Swallowed the Radio (Egypt) by director Yasser Shafei.
  • I Bit My Tongue (Tunisia, France) by director Nina Khada.
  • The Girls Who Burned the Night (KSA) by director Sara Mesfer.

This section will also showcase three international premieres, namely:

  • Isabel (Cuba) by Egyptian director Sara Shazly.
  • The Red Spiral (Venezuela) by director Lorena Colmenares.
  • Kurchatov (Russia) by director Alexander Korolev.
