Pictures of a huge wall shielding Alexandria’s Mediterranean sea have been circulating for over a day on social media platforms. People are claiming it’s going to block the view of the beautiful sea of Alexandria; arguing that it’s their basic right. They can’t imagine a stroll on the corniche without seeing the sea; considering it is a public property!
On the other hand, Salah Eissa- a Member of the House Of Representatives for Alexandria Governorate- stated that the pictures circulating are misleading, and that social media users are making it seem like the Corniche of Alexandria is completely covered with the wall, confirming it is a rumor initiated by “Enemies of Success”, and that people should totally ignore this.
Moreover, Eissa added that they only put up a fence that is 3 meters of hight, near Mostafa Kamel area, and its purpose is to prevent cars from accidentally falling into the sea in that specific spot; especially with the new bridge project in Mostafa Kamel. He added that the fence project came after they witnessed multiple car accidents on site, during the last period of time.
Eissa also stressed that the wall does not, by any means, cover the sea view as it was only built up under the bridge, and it is not possible for it to actually prevent citizens from seeing the sea. He added that they will always protect Egyptians right of enjoying the sea and would never rob them of that.
