Everyone got to meet the disappointments of growing up. Everything you thought you knew about adulthood as a child turned out to be the exact opposite and finding that out was in no way pleasant.
Now that I’m older, there are a few things I would have expected my parents to tell me instead of leaving me clueless or lying to me about it.

1- You will not be rescued by Prince Charming

In the movies, they always make it seem like you will only be complete once you’ve found “the one” but they never tell you how hard relationships actually are and that you won’t marry the first guy you fall for. And it’s not going to be a happily ever after when you get married. The story doesn’t end there.

2- There is life after school

I see a lot of teenagers nowadays who seem to forget that in a few years all the things they worry about now won’t matter.images (2)

3- There will be people who want to bring you down

You wouldn’t believe how cruel the world is until you see it with your own two eyes.

4- Getting good grades and an honorable job is not all there is to this life

I’m not sure how hiding everything about what is going to happen in the future will help them. We should prepare them and not sugarcoat sour meals.

5- It’s hard to make friends

You’d think that you’ll go to school, meet your best friends and remain friends forever. Seems a bit too perfect; don’t you think?

6- Money buys happiness

Until this day I have never understood why parents would tell us “Money can’t buy you happiness” when we clearly live in a world where everything can be bought.

7- Society has high expectations that are impossible to keep up with

You cannot simply “be who you are” and “be who you want to be”. At least not without serious consequences.

Would it have been better knowing those things beforehand or figuring it out by yourself?
