There comes a point in our lives when we feel…bored. With ourselves, with our daily routines, with the way we look in the mirror and the way we do our hair every single day. It’s like there’s one illustration to who we are, and sometimes we just don’t want that specific figure anymore. It even feels icky. Our hunger for a new us starts transpiring. The world, thankfully, is full of different colours and delightedly offers diversity, so maybe we can change as well. Here’s a list of all the things you should do when you’re craving a brand-new you:
1- New Hair-Do
Long hair? Chop it all off. Get rid of those locks you’ve always been afraid to dispose of. Or maybe, if you’re used to having short hair, try leaving it for a while. Give yourself the chance to try something new and to look different. There are other options though, if you don’t want to cut it. You can try a different colour. Go black if you’re blond, or blond if you’re a brunette. Maybe try dying it red? To be honest, a simple new hairstyle would do. You can actually start trying new hairstyles everyday instead of the plain old poney-tail or the ‘I woke up like this’ hair look.
2- New Wardrobe
Give ALL of your clothes to charity, or sell them! Get rid of it all. Maybe not the expensive things that you like, but get rid of the things that you seem to wear a little too often. Now, go shopping. Set a budget aside, and buy new shirts/pants/underwear/bras/boxers/shoes. Clothes really do express who we are. New you? New clothes!
3- Redecorate Your Room
I personally do this one quite often. Just do your room a make-over. You probably spend half of your life in this 4 walled coffin, so you might as well change it up a little bit every now and then. Put the bed where the wardrobe was and vice-versa. It actually makes a huge difference. You’ll get a whole new perspective of your room, and maybe life. Also, buy posters or just simple quirky things to put up on your wall. You want your room to be full of the things you love.
4- New Accessories and Make-up
Buy a new make-up kit. If you’re used to having red nail polish on, put black nail polish on. New earrings, new necklace, new eyeliner. Maybe start wearing lipstick if you don’t! You’ll feel different, and you’ll look different in the mirror.
5- Gain or Lose Weight
This is in case you truly want drastic changes. If you think you need to gain a little bit of weight, now is the time to do it. Or maybe lose a little weight. After a month or so, you’ll definitely feel like a new person. One of my favourite things that I experienced after losing a little bit of weight, were the people telling me that I feel different. Gain or lose weight, it affects the way you feel about yourself.
6- Listen to New Music!
Music does affect the way we perceive the world, and the way we feel about ourselves. If you want a new you, listen to new music. Experiment with music. If you thought you hated Jazz, listen to Nina Simone and maybe that’ll change your mind about a whole genre. Just listen to new albums and stop replaying the same old songs on your iphone/ipod.
7-Try Different Restaurants
Try new food! We all love our basic burgers and pizzas, but try new stuff! Get the plate you never think of on the menu! Be original. I’m guilty of ordering the same dish every single time I go to a restaurant, and to be honest that’s just really boring. Eating things that aren’t in your comfort zone will make you feel like a new person.
8- Maybe Make New Friends
That’s not to say you should get rid of your old friends. But, it’s always nice to expand your group circle. Get to know new people, and by doing so you’ll feel a little different. We tend to stick to the same group our whole lives, and that’s never going to help if we want to feel new. Stick to them alright, but meet and hang-out with new people!
Now free yourself from of all of the constraints life seems to have imposed on you. Try new things, and allow yourself change.
