Remember the days you and your best friend talked about your wedding night? No one told you it will come this fast, did they? You’re twenty something and you’re more confused than you’ve ever been in your life, and all of a sudden, you’re bombarded with so many invitations from your friends who are finally getting their happily ever after. It’s OK; we get you. Sit back and read because we’re about to lay out for you all the things you wish to tell them, but can’t.
1. I honestly couldn’t be any happier for you
We’ve talked about your wedding ever since we were young and didn’t know any better, and it makes me immensely happy that you are finally achieving your dreams and getting your happily ever after.
2. But at the same time, I am secretly judging you
I mean don’t get me wrong, I want you to get married. I want you to be happy, but this is all happening too soon. You’re still young. You have your whole life ahead of you. Why did you have to get married so soon?
3. Just because I don’t want this for myself right now, doesn’t mean I don’t have your back
I know that I speak of marriages as if they are the end of the world, but in no way does this reflect back on my feelings towards you and the huge step you are taking. I appreciate what you’re doing and just because we see things differently, doesn’t mean I won’t be there for you to support you.
4. You need to understand that I am distant because our lives are different
I know that I am growing more distant by the minute, but we’re just at two opposite sides of life right now. You’re settling down and spending time with your future hubby, and I’m out every night partying and trying to meet guys! I don’t love you less, but you are not really up to scoring guys either, are you?
5. My life doesn’t revolve around your wedding
I know you’re excited and trust me I couldn’t be more excited either, but you just can’t expect me to drop off my studying and the exam I have tomorrow to go shopping with you or to discuss guest lists. How about we do that tomorrow after I’m done with my final, which I’m working so hard for.
6. I am not jealous
I know that Egyptians have this false belief that weddings are this ultimate goal that everyone aims for and dreams about, but that’s just not me. My time will come. I’m not the kind of person who desperately wants to get married; I’m really not.
7. I am not a millionaire
All the trips, the bachelorette/bachelor parties and bridesmaids/henna dresses I really can’t afford are causing me to starve to death, so please just please don’t add up another Sokhna trip for your precious photoshoot.
We just laid out all the things we wish to say to our soon to be married friends, how about you? What would you like to tell them? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
