Man with a beard for the Movember

Movember, what was once a movement for a good cause, became a trend for jerks who are trying to prove to the world that their testosterone exists. Most men now join the movement for social media approval, and not really thinking about why they’re doing it. The Movember movement actually has a very good cause, and before you jump on the wagon, or even judge it, you might want to know more about it.

It’s all about awareness

The creators say it’s done to ‘change the face of men’s health.’ Movember is an event that happens annually in November to raise awareness about Men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer and other male health problems.

It’s intended to be “douchebaggy”

The creators, who are all Australian, said that the “douchebag” culture was rising in the late 90s, so they decided to use aspects of the culture when they started the campaign so these men would be more aware of their health more than joining frat houses and forming boy bands. Pretty smart move!

The participants of the movement are called “Mo Bros”

Before-and-After-JigneshS

Because nothing is manlier than calling each other “Bros” and the Mo is slang for “mustache.”

It’s now not just a trend, but an NGO too

The campaign became a full NGO that operates worldwide and collects donations to spread the Movember movement and even provides free tests for those who can’t afford them. It’s been one of the top 100 NGOs worldwide since 2012.

It’s about the mustache, not the beard

While it might be commonsense to some, not all Mo Bros are aware of the fact that MOvember is about mustache only. No beards!

Movember isn’t gender specific

Movember

Woman can join too by spreading awareness about the movement, whether it’s online, donations, or volunteering. They also sell merchandise designed specifically for the ladies to compensate for their lack of mustaches.

It’s sponsored by a lot!

Huge companies, including Yamaha and Harley Davidson, sponsor the campaign. Many celebrities endorse and join Movember, including a large number of Australian celebrities (no names listed cause we probably know none of them) and other worldwide celebs, like Snoop Dogg, all 3 members of the band Foster the People, Kevin Connolly, and Brody Jenner.

You can win a Moscars if you join

Yup, no kidding! They organized an event where participants join by sending videos to them online to say how much they grew as people, along with their mustache.

While “Movember” might be annoying for some, including myself, because of how crazy men go about their facial hair, it’s actually a very good cause. So men, remember, with every selfie you post, try and post some kind of an awareness with it too! Don’t drift from the main purpose of the campaign, and definitely don’t join the trend train without knowing why it’s there.
