Question 1: What inspired you to start your own engineering company, and how did you grow it?

Eng. Mohamed El Haddad:

Starting my own engineering company has been a rewarding challenge. Over the course of history, Egyptians have always been pioneers in architecture & design, creating not only aesthetically pleasing designs but also functionality beyond the design. At a young age, I was fascinated by Egypt’s rich heritage, especially in architectural designs. Ex (Ancient Egyptian architecture, Islamic & Ottoman architecture etc…).

Built-up spaces are constructed to serve a purpose, and as an architect, my aim is to create a space that isn’t just beautiful but also serves a function. This inspired me to make a positive impact on the industry and to contribute to the growth and development of the local economy.

Question 2: How has your love for Egyptian ancestry and architecture affected your approach to design and construction in your real estate development projects?

Eng. Mohamed El Haddad:

We started working on providing full engineering solutions further than just construction, growing from just a construction office into a group of companies that serve in diversified fields and provide tailored solutions. I believe it’s important to preserve and celebrate our heritage in all aspects of our work.

From here on, the business started booming due to our hard work, commitment, and strategic planning.

In our real estate development projects, we strive to incorporate elements of traditional Egyptian architecture and design into our modern structures, in order to create a sense of continuity and connection with our past. This might involve using materials like limestone and marble or incorporating traditional motifs and patterns into our designs as reflected in all our projects’ revamping.

At the same time, we are also committed to using the latest technology and materials to ensure that our buildings are safe, energy-efficient, and sustainable. This means that we often use a combination of traditional and modern techniques and materials in our projects, in order to create buildings that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Overall, our love for Egyptian ancestry and architecture has been a guiding force in our work, shaping our approach to design and construction and helping us to create buildings that are both timeless and innovative.

Question 3: How do you balance the traditional Egyptian architectural styles with the modern and creative design features in your projects?

Eng. Mohamed El Haddad:

When designing a building or space, it’s essential to consider the cultural and historical elements of the location. For example, we can use the traditional Egyptian Mashrabiya pattern in a modern façade made of glass or concrete. This would give a nod to the past while also creating a contemporary look. Another way to balance traditional and modern design features is to use a minimalist approach; simplifying the design can highlight the traditional elements and make them stand out in a modern context.

We have achieved this minimalist approach in our business complex project in the new Administrative Capital. It’s inspired by Egypt’s mountainous landscapes, with the patterns blended in the design aspect to achieve a traditional and modern look.

Question 4: What challenges have you faced in your career as an architect and entrepreneur, and how have you overcome them?

Eng. Mohamed El Haddad:

In order to achieve my goal, I have to stay agile and up-to-date with new trends to overcome any obstacles.

The goal was to create a group of companies that complement, facilitate, and serve each other in all stages starting from: construction, infrastructure, MEP, electromechanical, logistics services, system integration, smart solutions, and real estate development. Providing fully fledged engineering solutions from A-Z.

One of the most significant challenges has been managing multiple companies with different structures, and goals, and unifying their culture. Since each company has its own unique challenges, it can be difficult to ensure that they all work together harmoniously to reach the common goal.

Overall, the key to overcoming these challenges has been to remain adaptable, innovative, and persistent. And I continuously seek new solutions and approaches to manage the group of companies effectively and ensure their long-term success.

Question 5: What advice would you give to aspiring architects and entrepreneurs who are interested in entering the real estate industry?

Eng. Mohamed El Haddad:

My advice to aspiring architects and entrepreneurs would be to focus on developing a unique value proposition and building a strong network of industry professionals.

If the opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.

Question 6: What are some of the historical landmarks that have inspired you during your journey and why did you find them inspiring?

Eng. Mohamed El Haddad:

The history of Egyptian architecture has always been very rich and inspiring, and some of the historical constructions in Egypt are outstanding. Egypt has been through diverse historical eras such as Ancient Egypt, Ottoman Empire, and European influences.

I have always been fascinated by the pyramids, one of the 7 wonders of the world. The construction of these massive structures has captivated people for centuries. The pyramids were constructed using limestone blocks for abundance and durability. They are fascinating in terms of size and the incredible engineering skills that went into building them.

Additionally, I have always admired Islamic-influenced designs, with features such as domes, arches, and geometric patterns. The Citadel’s design is also influenced by Ottoman architecture, notably in the use of ornate decoration, such as calligraphy and tilework. Islamic-influenced designs have inspired us in our projects over the years.
