A few days back, Egyptian singer Mahmoud El Esseily tweeted, calling out and making fun of the young songwriters and composers who try to reach him via WhatsApp, admitting that he usually ‘blocks’ them. Although he is known to have a significant fanbase, this statement unleashed a series of hate and criticism from his fans.

The reactions were very harsh and full of hate, accusing El Esseily of crushing the young artists’ self-esteem, something which contradicts the values projected in his own songs.

Some public figures sided with the young talents; as they felt El Esseily was being arrogant, snobbish and mean for no reason at all. They also felt he was being ungrateful to his own fans who basically made him the star he is today.

Some footballers even got into the argument and harshly criticized El Esseily for his unnecessary behavior and commented on how it would’ve been much easier and wiser to just ignore the message and not address it on Twitter, if it really ‘annoyed’ him, as he claimed.

Finally after hell broke loose, he decided to reply. But instead of apologizing, he defended what he wrote and still stood by it;  calling those who attacked his tweet “uncivil”, “low” and “immoral” and asserting that he was only criticizing the invasion of his privacy!

Just when you think it’s over, El Sharnouby decides to jump in and side with the up and coming artists, indirectly. Seems like El Sharnouby was equally aggravated by El Esseily’s tweet, just like the rest.

Share your thoughts with us; do you agree with El Eisseily that it was indeed an invasion of his privacy, or do you think that he should have reacted differently, nevertheless?
