I never was a fan of Shereen Abd El-Wahabโ€™s work, simply because her type of music isnโ€™t appealing to me. That said, I was always a fan of her as a person. Sheโ€™s a strong woman who came a long way, and never forgot her roots. Recently, with her appearances on The Voice, especially this season, I realized that people have the exact opposite opinion of mine. People like her music, but dislike her as a person.

I donโ€™t watch the show, and was never planning on seeing it, but becoming veryย curious aboutย all the Shereen Abd El-Wahab cussing on social media โ€“ and being sick every weekend, because winter is trying to kill us all โ€“ I decided to watch the show and see what the whole fuss is about.

I have to admit; she seemed like she was trying too hard with being reality show friendly and it gave me second hand embarrassment at times. But isnโ€™t this how reality shows are, and thatโ€™s why we all hate them?

On the other hand, there was Assey El-Helany, the Lebanese male singer whom, I have to admit, I have always been a huge fan of ever since I was a little girl whenย he was booming in the early 90’s.

Assey was trying 10 times more to steal the spotlight at any given time, and more importantly, he’s a serial harasser for the women on the show to the point of him making jokes about his harassment.

Shereen got all the hate, Assey had a small number of angry tweets, but tons others glorifying his actions and โ€œsmoothnessโ€ with the ladies.

Shereen was made fun of from the way she talks, to the way she dresses โ€“ even though her dresses were always on point and anyone with the slightest taste should appreciate them.

People were especially harsh, however, about her demeanorย claiming sheโ€™s not โ€œlady like.โ€ Shereen was never the traditional beauty, nor ever maintained the โ€œlady likeโ€ stereotype. She always rocked a pixie haircut, never wore the so-called girly clothes, and it was never expected of her to try and please anyone with a girly attitude either.

She took off her shoe to push the button on the chair. Almost every female celebrity on โ€œThe voiceโ€ franchise did the same thing to show off their shoes which, Iโ€™d like to remind the ones who made fun of her, areย probably worth more than anything you own โ€“ quite literally. Usher had his leg on top of the chair the whole season and pressed the button with it to show off his shoes as well, and everyone thought he was cool.

She had her leg next to her on the chair. What girl doesnโ€™t do that? I can assure you that most girls reading this, and myself writing this, are doing the same thing. She wants to be comfortable; she got comfortable. Why would anyone be bashed forย this?

She kisses and hugs guys!! THE SHOCKER because no other Egyptian woman ever did that. Like ever! Thatโ€™s shameful to the whole countryโ€ฆ.

While this is just a stupid reality show that isnโ€™t worth theย debate, but itโ€™s a reflectiveย of our society and how we viewย women. The simplest thing a woman does is scrutinizedย and criticized by everyone, butย when a man screws up, we let it slide.

Give the woman some slack, and stop over analyzing womenโ€™s action. Live and let live, and let Shereen be the fabulous person that she is!
