Head and hands shot of Little girl sticking out her tongue at the camera for fun

Kids are supposed to be cute, adorable, and innocent creatures, but are they really? Well, you might think so, until you bump into a typical Egyptian kid with one or more of the characteristics mentioned below:

“El arashan”

This one goes for the kids who LOVE to argue. They boast bargaining and negotiating powers since day one. They don’t take no for an answer or care how old you are; they will keep arguing until you give up and compromise just to shut them up. “7abiby, can you please get me a glass of water?” -“Go get it yourself; msh 3andek edeen w regleen zayi?” Oh! They can be very rude as well!

“El kebeer awi”

kebeer
Some kids are born with “leadership” genes. You know those 3 year olds who keep bullying other kids at school/nursery? They’re the same ones who declare the most fun swing in the playground theirs, forbidding the other kids from using. They’d be like “Law ragel, nazelni men 3aliha“. As for the girls,  you’ll most probably find them forming their “Mean Girls” club and accepting qualified members starting from grade 1 or 2! “Ana el rayesa hena!” is their motto.

“El saye3”

saye3
This is the bad boy who uses his charm to attract all the girls since kindergarten. He’s the ladies’ man from day one; all the other boys admire and fear him at the same time. He always wants to follow the latest fashion trends; sporting Tamer Hosny’s baggy pants is one of his most desired dreams. This one is also dying to hold a cigarette to complete his “saye3” image; “3abdo mota” might be his role model.

The fat kid

When it comes to food, most kids prefer McDonald’s, pizza, chocolate and candy. But a true Egyptian kid will usually go for that “soba3 ma7shi” or maybe even “kaware3“. Some kids are not kids when it comes to food!

“El aroub”

You know that unbelievably smart kid who’s only 2 or 3 years old and keeps asking curious questions about the world around them? This one never settles before dragging the words out of your mouth to get the answer he’s looking for. Usually, he’s the one who analyzes the situation and figures out the answer on his own. Their curiosity and creativity make them so funny and cute, that you can’t stop yourself from smiling while calling them “ya aroub/arouba” every time they use their tricky playful attitude.
“El zanan”

zanan
You know that annoying kid in 7areem Karim‘s movie who keeps saying “mama 3aiza a3ml pipi, 3aiz a3ml pipi!” throughout the whole movie? This is the typical Egyptian zanan kid. He keeps repeating the same things over and over again in an annoyingly loud voice until you eventually break down and surrender. Please, BATAL ZAN!

“El daloo3/daloo3a”

daloo3
This one is usually glued to their mom from day one, or as all moms call it: “da 3alatool mashi fi deeli“. These kids don’t speak to anyone, and it’s not easy to make them smile. You keep trying to befriend them, but all you get at the end is: “Mommy, 3amo/tante betdaye2ni!!“. This is the same one who doesn’t like to play in the sand because it’s “yukki!” and doesn’t wear Crocks because “msh hanzl b shebsheb!
