It’s this time of year again! Weather’s starting to cool down and nights are getting longer. We know what you’re thinking, am I the only one who starts feeling blue as soon as this type of weather creeps in? The answer’s no! You’re definitely not alone on this one, this is where depression usually kicks in for some people.
Winter is known for its sad winter songs and gloomy days. It’s transitioning from the warm sunny days to cold rainy nights and it’s okay for that to affect you! You get a sudden urge to just curl up under your blanket where you’re most warm and comfortable. Yes, us too!
But you have to be careful where that might lead you sometimes. Seasonal depression is real you guys. Curling up under your blanket the first couple days of winter is one thing and not wanting to get out of bed the entire season is another.
If you don’t start putting an end to it, seasonal depression can really start to get a hold of you. And that’s why we’re here, to give you some heads up and offer a helping hand. Without further a do, here are some ways to help ease seasonal depression!
Start Sweating!
We’re not lying when we say exercise really does help. Get moving and feel the energy pumping through your bones. It’s got to be better than staying in bed all day! We know first steps are always the hardest but trust us, once you start with that first day of exercising, you won’t be able to stop!
Soak Up Some Sun
We can’t think of anything a little bit of sunshine can’t fix; you’ve got to give this a try! Pick your favorite outdoor spot and get ready to get a mood lift right there and then!
First off, the sun will leave you feeling a lot warmer. And on top of that, the vitamin D will definitely leave you feeling a lot happier!
Get Colorful
Most of us tend to associate winter with dark clothes, but what if we switch that up a little? Wear a bright pink sweater instead of that black coat. We know black is pretty much everyone’s best friend but how about befriending yellow for a change? Try it out and trust us, you’ll get a bit of a morning boost!
Books can comfort you more than you could ever imagine! Get that novel you’ve been wanting to read for the longest time. Buy a self improvement book that will give you some motivation and positivity. The most important thing is that you read some more, it’ll surely make your life a lot richer!
Spend Time With Loved Ones
We all have that one friend who always makes us feel better. Comfort zone friends are the best! So, instead of spending most of your time alone, how about you spend some of it with that one friend you feel yourself with? We can’t guarantee you’ll overcome your depression with a friend by your side, but you’ll definitely move closer to it!
Sip On Hot Drinks
How about a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows on top? A warm bowl of delicious soup? Coffee with whipped cream? Are some mouths starting to water over here? Indulging something warm is one of winter’s biggest blessings, so make use of it. This season’s not all gloomy and cold after all!
Get A Pet
Did you know animals can give you a happiness boost? Imagine seeing a cute little puppy on a sad Monday, don’t you think that’ll make you feel instantly more joyful? Now picture having one that you can go to every time you feel down. That pet will definitely be a mood booster!
Talk To Someone
If nothing seems to make you feel better in any kind of way, you need to seek professional help. Sometimes you need someone to talk to about how you’re feeling. Look for a trustworthy therapist that you feel comfortable talking to and know everything’s going to be okay from there!
