Actress Basma on Motherhood & How It Can Change A Woman’s Views on Life

We all hear the statement “your life will never be the same when you have kids”, but not all of us will realize the fact that this statement isn’t about the change that will happen to your routine or your lifestyle, it’s about the emotional changes that people go through the second they become a parent.

A few days ago, actress Basma got the chance to talk in details about a lot of aspects in her personal life in a TV interview. She spoke about postpartum depression, her latest role in Naseeby We Esmetak and how she got infected with COVID twice, among other personal things.

However, it was one part of the interview that caught almost everyone’s attention. It was when she admitted how motherhood changed her and recounted how she had very different views and perspectives on life before becoming a mother. She was strongly opposed to breastfeeding and to the idea of a child co-sleeping with her in bed.

She confessed that she refused the idea of breastfeeding before becoming a mother. Basma went on to say that when people asked her about her reasons, she’d explain that it would make her feel like she’s filling in the role of a cow in someone’s life. However, after giving birth to her daughter, everything changed. All her logic disappeared into thin air, as her emotions took over.

When she had the luxury of time to bond with her daughter Nadia, Basma ended up doing everything she said she wouldn’t do. She breastfed her daughter for two years and even had trouble sleep-training Nadia, until her husband did it. Basma said that her daughter has her wrapped around her finger.

Now with all the facts laid out straight on the table, some people still decontextualized Basma’s statements and made memes out of them.

Nevertheless, people were quick to defend Basma and cleared the air themselves in the comments section.

The moral of the story is that motherhood really changes women. No matter what perspectives, values, and beliefs they previously held; all vanishes at the first sight of their children.

Physically, emotionally, and scientifically, you are never the same person after giving birth. And in spite of her choice of wording, that’s exactly what Basma intended to shed light on.

Egyptian American TikToker Mai, AKA” Mai’s Vault”, Is Here In Egypt!

Ever seen a video so relatable you think to yourself are we all living the same life? Well, Egyptian and New York-based TikToker Mai, AKA “Mai’s Vault”, gives us Egyptian girl struggles comedy skits alongside her charismatic mother “Mama Wafaa” – who let’s all collectively agree – is our mom right now.

Let’s go back a little and find out who Mai is, shall we? Mai is a curly head first-generation Egyptian American born and raised in New York, USA. Mai had expressed earlier how she hated the fact that she worked a 9-5 job. She showed a lot of interest in social media and saw people liking her content.

Since September 2019, Mai boomed on TikTok when her video series showing her mother’s reaction to her doing certain “out of place” things went viral. Mai happens to feature her mother in almost all her videos. She’s like our typical Egyptian mom who is so fed up with our crazy antics but deep down, we can tell she loves us unconditionally.

Her comedy skits involve her and her brother pranking Mama Wafaa and getting a reaction out of her. Another series Mai makes are “street interviews”, where she goes out and asks random strangers relationship questions and it happens to be a fan favorite because of the crazy responses we all hear from them!

On November 10, 2021. Mai dropped grand news and our jaws dropped with them. She announced her engagement to her now new husband Max Maxwell and had a beautiful wedding. They took a trip to Dubai and here’s the good part, she’s currently in Egypt, taking Max back to her roots along with Mama Wafaa.

So, here’s the best part, she’s hosting a meet and greet at Hilton Heliopolis on February 9th, 2022! We can’t wait to see what she and Mama Wafaa are like in person!

What better way to start the second month of 2022 than meeting an influential, funny and wholesome mother-daughter duo! Mai is set to break gender stereotypes targeting Arab girls to both her Egyptian and American audience.

Mai has 872K followers on Instagram, 1.7M followers on TikTok and 24.4K subscribers on YouTube. Make sure to check her out if you’re ever feeling down. She’ll guarantee you a smile in no time!

Netflix’s Finding Ola Proved It’s Never Too Late To Start Over

The first rule of getting over a breakup is, dye your hair. The second rule of getting over a breakup is going on a self discovery journey and trying to find out who you’re supposed to be.

Talented actress Hend Sabry plays her old character Ola Abdel Sabour, ten years after the famous series “Ayza Atgwaz” (I Want to Get Married), in an all-new Netflix MENA series titled “Finding Ola” and directed by Hadi El Bagoury.

This time she’s out there reinventing herself and finding her place in life after her husband Hisham (Hany Adel) ends their marriage because of an unhappy life together. This is where everything changes for Ola. Starring alongside Sabry are Sawsan Badr, Nada Moussa and Mahmoud Ellisy

As we binge-watch the six-episode series of Ola spiraling, panicking and not knowing what else life will throw at her, we get a chance to indirectly interact with her. Ola breaks the fourth wall by speaking directly to the audience.

You probably thought out loud with her and reacted as if she’s genuinely talking to you and happened to try to give her advice, but then realized… “Oh wait, she can’t hear me”. All you can do is watch her go through the best and worst versions of herself.

This show brought us a variety of guest stars, one of them Khaled El-Nabawy playing a role in Ola’s life.

This show gave us all types of quirkiness; from Sabry’s character’s world crashing down to Ellisy’s character having a talent for smelling fragrances and French pronunciation. The show gave us the comedic effect of watching Ola (Sabry) transition from being your typical housewife to a full-on business owner.

The show brings light on modern feminism and tackles gender double standards and ageist mindsets. Why is it okay when a man gets a divorce, however when a woman does it then she has gone crazy?

The characters are likable and relatable, and no one seems to feel villainized or cruel. All characters were dealing with their own problems in different ways. We all want at some point to portray the ones we once loved and hurt us as cruel and horrible people but in reality, we can’t always get what we want.

Ola was educating herself on how to deal with life while experiencing new things that were put on hold for her. It felt like she was also educating us on the matter of knowing your worth, putting yourself first and that it’s never too late to start over.

In each episode, we see Ola become more confident and more self-aware of her identity. The artistic direction of showing Cairo from a bird’s-eye view is pleasing to the eye, making us more aware of how beautiful this city is.

The entire experience of the show was a rollercoaster of emotions. We laughed, we cried, we were angry and we were sympathetic with all of the characters.

This series showed us how strong and resilient a woman can be no matter what. From raising her kids to owning a business, discovering her identity while doing it, that you don’t have to be with someone to be whole and that there is no age limit to starting all over.

Beko Named as One of the Real Leaders Top 200 Impact Companies of 2022

On the road to sustainability, a lot of social and environmental decisions have to be taken. And while every small step counts, not every action leads to the desired outcomes. And since making the world a better place has been their main goal for the past two decades, Beko’s efforts towards building a sustainable future have been recognized by Real Leaders, the world’s first sustainable business & leadership magazine, a member of the UN Global Compact and a firm believer of the need to inspire impact leaders for a better future.

Real Leaders believe that businesses should be held responsible for their impact on employees, society, and the planet, as well. Their award aims to honor companies with positive influences, in hopes of creating healthier lives for the next generations. Looking back on their valuable talks with leaders like Oprah Winfrey, Sir Richard Branson, Suzy Amis Cameron and more makes it very rewarding for Beko, Europe’s leading home appliance brand, to have made their Top 200 Impact Companies of 2022 list. In fact, Beko ranked 20th on the list of the global inspirational media platform.

Beko seeks to empower future generations to live healthier lives, knowing that the possibility of this relies on the existence of a healthy sustainable planet. Hence, employing the “healthy living is only possible on a healthy planet” approach is the way to achieve their aims. Beko’s rank on the Real Leaders’ list strongly indicates that the company’s sustainability efforts are well aligned with Real Leaders’ mission. Through its sustainable business practices, the company continues to inspire others.

Raising awareness and advocating for sustainability were always major parts of Beko’s plan to bring their mission to life. The line incorporates recycled materials, bio-composites and detergent-saving technologies in their manufactures. Beko seeks to alter the consumers’ day-to-day lives and leave a positive impact on the planet; their technologically advanced range of sustainable products includes a washing machine/washer dryer, oven, tumble dryer, refrigerator, espresso coffee maker and dishwashers.

On certain models of the EcoTub Washing Machine & Washer Dryer, up to 60 recycled 0.5L PET bottles were utilized in the tubs of washing machines and washer dryers, for example. Moreover, 5% recycled fishnet waste and 65% industrial thread waste were used in plastic parts like door decor plastic and display cover in the EcoFiber Oven. Beko’s AutoDose Dishwasher dispenses the right amount of detergent for sparkling clean dishes every time and in each wash, using up to 28%* less detergent for healthy living.

#LiveLikeAPro is the main intent and principal purpose of Beko and their partners. FC Barcelona, Fenerbahçe Men’s Basketball Team, and the European League of Legends Championship (LEC) are the partnerships that help ignite Beko’s flame of advocacy for healthy living.

‘Respecting the World, Respected Worldwide’ is the mission of Arçelik, Beko’s parent company, which also ranked 19th on the Real Leaders®️ Top 200 Impact Companies of 2022. When Arçelik aimed for worldwide respect, they really meant it. With subsidiaries in 49 countries, 28 production facilities in 9 countries, and 12 brands, among which are Beko, Blomberg, Arctic, Dawlance; Arçelik was well-deserving of the rank. However, being on the list isn’t their only achievement, as they became the first and only company from the industry to receive the Terra Carta Seal by HRH Prince of Wales.

The multinational household appliances manufacturer is home to over 1,700 researchers and holds more than 3,000 international patent applications to date, with their 30 R&D and design centers and offices across the globe. In 2019 and 2020, Arçelik officially became carbon-neutral in Scope 1 and 2 in global manufacturing, by producing more energy-efficient appliances than any other company on the international markets.

Hakan Bulgurlu, CEO of Arçelik

In celebration of that milestone, Hakan Bulgurlu, CEO of Arçelik, said: “It is a privilege to be recognized as one of The Real Leaders Top 200 Impact Companies of 2022, because of Beko’s relentless efforts towards building a more sustainable future. As a business, we continue to innovate and understand that we have a collective responsibility to lead the way in working to prevent environmental devastation. Knowing that sustainability and innovation efforts must go hand in hand to achieve a meaningful impact, we encourage our industry peers and customers to join the fight with us, to ensure a more sustainable future for all.”

Ahmed Basyoni’s ‘El Halawa Di’ Sparks a New Conversation

Ahmed Basyoni is an artist and a creative copywriter who is well known for starting new trends. With millions of followers and likes on his social media accounts, Basyoni’s massive creativity found an outlet.

Reactions to Ahmed’s creations have mostly always been positive. However, it was inevitable not to notice the negative comments that his latest song received. Trending on YouTube Music, ‘El Halawa Di‘ started a new conversation.

The Origin of the Song

Ahmed Basyoni’s impressions and hypothetical funny situations are his trademarks. Last September, he posted a video on TikTok where he featured the first line of ‘El Halawa Di’; the video went viral back then and has 8.8 million views to date.

TikTok – Make Your Day

No Description

The video’s sound trended on TikTok as many TikTokers and content creators used it in their videos. Basyoni’s fans have waited impatiently for him to turn it into a full song. He finally released ‘El Halawa Di‘ with a music video on his YouTube Channel.

How Some People Reacted

Though many people loved the song and the brand new fun vibe of the music video, others had completely different thoughts. Finding something hilarious is totally subjective. Having a different music taste that won’t tolerate this kind of music is absolutely valid. People won’t like everything anyway. However, the criticism of this song was of a different kind; it stemmed out of fragile and toxic masculinity.

Some of the negative comments on Facebook
Some tweets about the song

There is a fine line between joking and offending. Adopting the idea that color has to do with manliness is a step backward for self-expression and deconstructing toxic masculinity. Obviously, jokes can be taken, but starting such a conversation is also very important.

Male insecurity and fragile masculinity are closely related. A lot of men may experience anxiety because they think they’re falling short of cultural standards of ‘real’ manhood. In spite of that, Ahmed took it very well. His responses were a 10 out of 10.

It was obvious that the mood of the song needed such an aesthetic. The colors were bright, matched the tone of the lyrics, and highlighted the intended message. It was a bit surprising that these comments came from both men and women, nonetheless, it incited another thought.

A man choosing the color of his clothes must have no relation to his masculinity. Several popular celebrities were seen wearing fur coats and pink suits. Many of the commenters certainly have a lot of favorite international artists.

Drake on the left, Snoop Dogg in the middle, and Kanye West on the right.
From left to right: Late Chadwick Boseman, TimothĂŠe Chalamet, Jake Gyllenhaal, A$AP Rocky, and John Legend.

The Million Dollar Question

And on that note, double standards entered the chat. So, we couldn’t help but wonder: If it was an international celebrity, would they receive the same reaction? Drop your opinions in the comments below!

Suits بالعربى is coming this Ramadan: Is the Egyptian entertainment industry running out of ideas?

Other than warm friend and family gatherings and Konafa with – something creative will most definitely pop up – Ramadan is bringing us the popular American legal drama “Suits بالعربى” this year. But here’s the twist, we’re getting our very own Egyptian Harvey Specter and are about to witness the Arab versions of our favorite American Suits characters.

Suits fans, you’re going to want to see this.

Created by Mohamed Hefzy and Yasser Abdel Mageed with the direction of Myriam Ahmadi, Suits بالعربى will feature the same characters from the show adapted by the all-star cast playing them. Who wouldn’t want to see Asser Yassin play corporate attorney “tough guy” Harvey Specter alongside Ahmed Dawood as college dropout turned legal consultant Mike Ross?

Saba Mubarak will take on the role of Jessica Pearson, Harvey’s Boss. Mohamed Shahin will feature as the bizarre Louis Litt, Reem Mostafa as Harvey’s Secretary Donna Paulsen while Dawood’s character’s love interest Rachel Zane will be played by Tara Emad.

A lot of Egyptian movies and shows we know today were adapted or inspired by the American entertainment industry; Tamer w Shawkeya, Hassan El Teneen, Hiba Regl Ghorab, and El Anesa Farah are to name a few. And as excited we are about this series already in filming, does this prove that the Egyptian entertainment industry is just recycling foreign TV shows?

TVision Media production CEO Tarek El Ganainy stated, “While it remains heavily inspired by the American drama, our version is unique and authenticated to Egypt featuring a celebrated cast of regional stars.”

As we wait for the show to drop on April 2nd, what can we expect from the characters? Are they going to portray the same mannerisms, same personalities and same dramatic effect? Or are they going to use Egyptian authenticity? Time will tell.

Always is Telling Us What We Should’ve Been Told a Long Time Ago: It’s ”Always Okay”!

Always has come up with a new definition for empowering women. Their authentic brand, known for its diversity and the quality of their products, has long been our all-time favouritefeminine care brand who had Egyptian women’s best interest at heart from day one

The new campaign launched by Always is all about taking the pressure off women and letting them know that it’s “Always Okay“. Always wants women to simply be themselves and feel that they are accepted just the way they are. The campaign’s main message is all about embracing who we are as women and everything that comes with that.

Going to work or university while Pmsing might be hard, but as women, we make our own decisions and choose what’s best for us and what makes us feel better about ourselves. So, if we want to still go about our day and get work done – it’s okay because we will still do it like a boss, anyway. We have this power within us.

And if we choose to stay home and cuddle our favouriteblanket and binge-watch our comfort series, that’s okay too and should never be perceived as “giving up” or “being weak”.

Whatever we choose, it’s “Always Okay“, that’s the message Always is keen on spreading through this campaign. Always wants women to feel comfortable in their own skin through promoting a culture of self-acceptance and normalisingdiversity.

And with every new generation, new challenges emerge, and being accepted by a society immersed in old views and habits tops this long list of challenges. That’s one more thing the campaign is aiming to tackle.

“Always Okay”

Always’ goal with this campaign is to empower GenZ females to make choices that unapologetically reflect who they are. You don’t have to do anything to prove yourself!

They want to make sure that GenZers know they’re in the driver’s seat. Their brand is all about different decisions women choose to make, and how there is no wrong or right.

You’ve got to love how up-to-date Always is! Their products are only a testament to how much they understand the upcoming generation’s needs, talk their language and support them.

And we have to give it up for GenZers for being the smartest, coolest generation of all time because they are influencing brands left and right to be more conscious. One of the things that make GenZers special is that one of their core characteristics is diversity; habits, opinions, and ideologies.

Although they are extremely diverse, they still embrace each other and come together to form a generation of change. Unlike previous generations, they have self-acceptance and accept one another, despite their differences – much like the message “Always” is trying to send to the world.

From start to end the campaign is inspired, powered by girls and women for girls and women. Most of the campaign’s cast and crew were females including director Mariam El Bagoury. That’s why Always also teamed up with the most influencing female GenZers out there to show you how to own your feminine side.

Young female influencers Aya Ibrahim, Laila Ezzat, Hana Daoud, Lily Samy, Rola Khalil, and Yasmina Eyad have been showing us that we as women should embrace our uniqueness and be true to ourselves, and they inspire young girls to do the same.

Always initiated a movement called the “Always Okay” movement. F&B brands, fashion brands and universities are already pitching in early on, while more entities are expected to join the movement created by Always.

The campaign is in collaboration with In Your Shoe, Essentials, Bazic, Dirty Cookie, and Xhbt Shop.

Always is on a mission to unleash GenZers & women’s confidence and let them know that “It’s Always Okay“, and we are so here for it!
