The Cairo to Cape Highway, a road that will stretch from Cairo, Egypt all the way to Cape Town, South Africa is officially underway. Spanning over nine countries, the road is massive, to say the least, and should take up to 10,228 KM to and from, andย an inordinate amount of time.

While the highwayย itself should prove easier access to those who cannot afford flight fare, it should also prove difficult, since parts of the road are yet unpaved. Passing from Sudan and Kenya to Zimbabwe and Botswana, the highway will undoubtedly provide unlimited sights and cultural aesthetics to those brave enough to trek the trip.

The idea for the highway was first brought up during the 1800’s, in an effort to provide easier access in connecting British colonies in Eastern Africa, yet it’s currently underway. The construction of the Cairo-Cape Town Highway will also make it easier on those looking to transport goods across the region.

Major General Gamal Hegazy was quoted as saying that “Cairo โ€“ Capetown Highway is made for transportation between the countries of Africa, as well as for bonding with theย BRICSย countries”. He also went on to shed some light on Egypt’s role when it comes to trading within Africa.

Once the projected is completed, people will have the option of trekking from Cairo to Cape Town, and everywhere in between, by car.
