Okay, we’re not going to beat around the bush here. More often than not the dynamic between a parent and their kid is weird. It just is. Sometimes, it’s full of respect and love and sometimes it’s barely tolerable and sometimes, well, it’s full of “this is not my dream, dad, it’s your dream” speeches.
This is why it’s honestly a breath of fresh air to see parents unconditionally support their kids. Yes, even if they don’t totally get what they’re doing and even if they’re still full of worry for their sakes.
And this is where Marwan Moussa’s dad, Mohamed Moussa, blew us all out of the water.
See, right after Moussa’s long-anticipated Florida album was released, his father took to Facebook to show just how proud of his son he really is. And not just that — he also went on every track in detail and even detailed his son’s music journey to now.
And just like with every wholesomely sweet thing, Egyptians ate it up! Gaining traction even outside rap/trap circles, people not only found it wholesome — they found that kind of support overwhelming.
Here’s the thing, though. With every passing comment on this post, we noticed a pattern. Either people were overwhelmed by the thought of a supportive parent who also cares about his son’s passion.
Or they dismissed it with a jokey ‘yeah but he definitely stole his dad’s phone to type that out‘. And yes, that’s a real take.
But we’re not gonna police it because, well, it’s kind of horribly sad that people cannot fathom that some parents are really this supportive and some parents really do care. Not only that — some people (and quite a lot of them at that) are surprised that Moussa’s dad does not make fun of his son’s career, ambitions, and general style.
Marwan Moussa’s dad’s post isn’t supposed to be a fairytale. It’s supposed to be the norm. Parents should care, unconditionally, about their kids and their hopes and dreams. They should be supportive, no “ifs” or “buts” or “this is stupid” in sight (unless someone is unknowingly hurting themselves).
We can only hope this lovingly supportive post becomes something of a gateway for some of us to have that conversation with our parents. And if it manages to get through to parents first, well, that’s much better.
