Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably heard of the New York Times and Hulu collab called “Framing Britney Spears”.

The documentary, revealing some pretty devastating facts, spiked a wave of rage among her American fans. The thing that paved the way to the formation of the #FreeBritney movement and later led to many street protests.

So, what’s the big revelation?

The movie examines the life of pop star Britney Spears since childhood. When she was just a 5 year old and her parents made her roam the country taking dance classes. Up until she got her big break starring in The Mickey Mouse Club.

We later see her quickly climb the ladder of fame with the release of her first album “Baby One More Time” and then her second “Oops!… I Did It Again”. And just like that Britney Spears was on top of the world when she was just 17 years old!

And just as big as the rise, was the fall. Spear’s decline was due to so many reasons. And that’s exactly what her fans and loved ones are saying is utterly unjust.

Justin Timberlake

They got married then divorced so young. She was a bigger star than he was back then and he used their breakup to launch “Cry Me A River”, featuring a model that looked exactly like his ex-wife and hinting heavily at her betrayal. Soon after its release, everyone hated hard on Spears.

The Media

Did you know that a huge number of paparazzi built their entire career off of solely following Britney? Magazines and news outlets would hire people just to stalk her. The pictures and the many situations narrated in the movie are just horrifying.

They’d spot everything and only highlight the slips. Like the famous headline “Bad mom” and the whole “almost dropped her baby” and “she drove the car with her baby on her lap” fiasco.

Rock-Bottom

As a consequence, Spears’ mental health started to deteriorate. Her father became her legal guardian and all her money and assets were placed under his control. She was deprived from seeing her kids and even her own brother was scheming alongside the paparazzi against her for money. Leading to this famous incident of shaved-head Britney busting the car window of some reporter that kept harassing her.

Finally, fan of Britney or not, we highly recommend watching the film. It’s a true testimony to all the horrors this human being had to endure for most of her life and how it almost led her to insanity.

Side note, after the documentary came out, The Times made an official apology to the singer and so did Justin Timberlake. However, she remains under her father’s financial grip.
