In the past few days, we’ve managed to see how powerful of a tool social media is. All happenings reinforced and denied all assumptions of social media campaigns being worthless or useless. Coming together to speak up and support a cause changed narratives for many.

Though many argue whether celebrities, sports figures, and influencers should weigh in on critical conversations, it was proven that it’s, in fact, crucial for them to be part of the talk.

When social media users with normal following bases on different platforms spread awareness about the recent escalating happenings, a lot of those who were either uneducated about the matter or against the cause changed their minds and started voicing out the newly-revealed truth for them.

Imagine how influential a statement from a celebrity with over 50 or 60 million followers and waves of dedicated fans hanging on their words would be.

Celebrities, influencers, and public figures hold a very crucial social responsibility that they should act on using their large platforms to amplify the voices of those who are powerless and helpless.

Social media does come in handy when speaking up and supporting a cause and if you think that posting on social media won’t change, mean, or do anything – then you need to rethink this, look around, and re-evaluate your belief system.

And for those who might think that actions speak louder than words, you’re right. But at times like these, speaking up is also an action and a very vital one. To support a cause, donating is highly and directly beneficial but so is talking about the matter in these trying times.

Because in times where narratives are constructed, facts are falsified, and history is being forgotten, you need to use your voice to be a guiding light and keep the real story circulating in hopes of changing some minds and setting the truth free.

Maybe, just maybe you can change things.

There’s no two-way thinking process about this issue, you either speak up about it or stay silent and spend the rest of your life on the wrong side of history.
