Have you ever heard of the expression “life imitates art”? Or was it that art imitates life? Since you’re doubtful about how it went, it is “life imitates art”. But does this mean that philosophy is true? That is one of those deep paradoxical questions, and there seems to be more than one point of view when it comes to all the endless drama surrounding entertainment productions. The most recent dilemma started when Azmet Montasaf El 3omr dropped, and it had people divided into two teams.

For the sake of more context, the series shows a man in love with his mother-in-law and getting into a relationship with her before finding out she’s actually his ex-wife’s stepmom. Some people were triggered by the story the series helped spread and narrate. They were outraged and believed that such productions threaten the values of our society and will continue to daub honey with poison by implanting these corrupt ideas and normalizing them for the younger generations. While it’s true that some productions give meaning to harmful scenarios, others viewed this differently.

The other team simply thought that it was unrealistic and childish to think that such forms of art will shape a society since our reality was already tainted or even far worse. They think tackling such topics in movies, shows or other methods was merely for awareness and sharing sermons for people to preach and comprehend the bitter truth. They even resorted to listing the most recent horrifying news stories that happened in real life like that girl who teamed up with her lover and killed her mother. So their question was how these movies, songs, or shows would distort our truth when it was already ugly. Their solution offered that those who find the show harmful shouldn’t watch it willingly; after all, the show is streamed on a platform and doesn’t cater to everyone in the public audience.

And just like that, we found ourselves in the middle of a dilemma. So, we’re hoping you can help us answer it; is media corrupting our society or is it already tainted?
