On August 21st, the Train For Aim Aquathlon at Hacienda Bay took place, organised by new affiliate TheTriFactory. Aquathlons are sporting events recognised by the International Triathlon Union (ITU), which follow the concept of triathlon without the inclusion of the cycling stage. The result is a shorter, faster race that combines swimming and running.

TFA’s Aquathlon brought a triathlon-related event to Sahel for the first time, and allowed participants to compete individually or as a relay team, with each member of the team completing one of the two stages. This new relay concept proved extremely popular, with participants divided into male, female, and mixed relay categories, alongside the traditional individual and junior categories. The relatively short distances of the race – 500m swim and 5k run – in the calm waters of the lagoon and the flat surface of Hacienda Bay allowed the athletes to really push themselves to run their fastest race, with some highly impressive swim and run times being achieved by the participating athletes.

Over 250 athletes of all ages, abilities, and experience levels registered for the race, with a 100% completion rate and a wonderful experience for all. A similar number of spectators was also in attendance, resulting in a great atmosphere and sense of community, as friends and family supported the athletes from the start all the way to the finish line.

Finally, the event served as a taste of what is yet to come, with Train For Aim and TheTriFactory announcing the annual Sahl Hasheesh Triathlon will take place on the weekend of December 11th and 12th!
