Recently, a number of celebrities – specifically female ones, if we’re being honest – have been put under the spotlight for how they look as they’ve been scrutinized and shamed for simply aging and growing old as normal people would.

A recent photo of Egyptian actress Mervat Amin has been widely circulating on social media and sparked a lot of conversation lately. The Egyptian diva had no makeup on and you can clearly tell she’s not in her most pleasant state as she is attending the funeral of a dear friend.

And let us tell you that the totally uncalled-for social media response was brutal.

For a long while now, Egyptian and international celebrities have endured severe age-shaming campaigns and are constantly being compared to how they looked in what people are calling “their prime period”.

Here’s a question though, are celebrities not allowed to age like the rest of us?

The comments are often pointing out the age lines and the no-makeup looks of a lot of female celebrities like they should be ashamed to publicly show their natural skin no matter how old they are or what circumstances are surrounding the situation they’re in – like a funeral in Mervat Amin’s case, for instance. How demeaning and inconsiderate?

On the other side of the world, American actress Sarah Jessica Parker has also been an online target for trolls who keep using phrases like “She did not age well”…etc. People are forgetting that the same age lines these women have are the same ones they and everyone they know will ultimately be getting overtime.

We are appalled by the fact that aging or growing old is portrayed as shameful and ugly in our society. Especially since the main target seems to be exclusively female celebrities.

Thankfully, there has been a lot of support regarding Mervat Amin’s photos as many people and co-stars have defended her and spoken up about how she’ll forever remain an icon of beauty who only keeps shining brighter with age and that those who are talking nonsense should keep out of other people’s business and faces. And that’s exactly the spirit we’re looking for!
