“If your eyes are the window to your soul, then your smile is the front door”, and the options and the opportunities to actually have and get the smile of your dreams are now accessible. That’s why we spoke to one of the best smile creators in the world of dentistry; Dr. Fady Genedy a fellow of the German Society of Oral Implantology (DGOI), and holder of a masters degree in Periodontology from Ain Shams University and a Master of Implantology from Goethe University.

First of all, why did you choose dentistry?

I chose it because it makes me a more passionate person. Dentistry is very diverse in its specializations in terms of research, cosmetics, surgery and other detailed specializations, so there’s always more room for learning and more fields to expand in.

Sometimes patients thank me and tell me that I changed their lives by giving them an extraordinary smile. I also love it when I relieve patients from their pain. I personally feel grateful that I have an impact on people’s lives.

What’s the most challenging aspect about your work?

Every job has its own set of challenges! I’m a perfectionist. My biggest challenge is surpassing my patients’ expectations while trying to always outperform myself every single time.

You mentioned earlier that dentistry has a lot of specializations, what are you specialized in?

Implant dentistry and periodontology (gum treatments and cosmetics).

A lot of people are now undergoing something called gum contouring. What exactly is gum contouring?

Gum contouring is a method that your dental specialist may prescribe to improve the presence of your gum tissue. This treatment can be a superb arrangement in two cases, first case is when you have excess gums that give you a “gummy smile”, where an excess tissue is concealing the teeth. Gum shaping works by evacuating the additional tissue to uncover a greater amount of the enamel hidden underneath.

The second case is when the patient has an uneven gum line. At times, there will be a lot of gum inclusion in a particular region and insufficient in another. Gum contouring can level out the gum line to create an ideal smile.

Do receding gums grow back?

Subsiding gums cause the gum tissue that encompasses your teeth to retreat and lower its situation on your tooth, uncovering the foundation of the tooth. Luckily, in spite of the fact that gums don’t develop back, there are a couple of things your dental specialist can do to right the issue and keep it from deteriorating.

Can you fix receding gums?

Moderate gum recession can be treated by an expert profound cleaning in the influenced region. During the profound cleaning, plaque and tartar are expelled and the uncovered root territory is smoothed, making it progressively hard for microbes to join itself to the surface.

So how can a patient avoid this, in other words, what causes gum recession?

Periodontal disease is a typical reason for gum downturn; it causes the loss of the supporting bone and tissue around a tooth through an inflammatory response. The gum downturn will in general influence every one of the teeth along these lines.

So moving on to dental implants which have become really popular and helpful, first of all, are dental implants safe?

Performed for over 50 years, dental implants are viewed as a protected tooth substitution system. To be qualified for secure implants you ought to have solid gums and great bone thickness to help the implant. Your mouth ought to be free of cavities and your degree of dental cleanliness must be high.

But do they have negative effects? If yes, what are they?

Like any procedure, it’s not risk-free. In this case, the risks can include contamination at the implant site. Damage or harm to encompassing structures, for example, other teeth or veins. Nerve harm, which can cause torment, deadness or shivering in your characteristic teeth, gums, lips or jawline. Sinus issues, when dental implants put in the upper jaw project into one of your sinus cavities. However, that’s why a patient should go to a trusted dentist who is specialized in implants and should ensure that this doctor is quite experienced in this field.

What is the downside of dental implants?

Dental implants have a few drawbacks contrasted with different techniques for exchanging lost teeth …. They cost a lot, they can be accompanied with some complications, they need commitment, a surgical procedure is mandatory. Anyway, a dental implant as a rule endures longer than other tooth substitution strategies.
