Egypt is a land where walking is not just a simple task of getting from point A to point B. It’s life-risking, adrenaline pumping, heart racing extreme sport and only the seasoned pro can master the streets of Egypt; that’s just a fact. If you don’t believe me, maybe the following reasons will convince you:

1. There are literally no sidewalks

You could start by walking on a particular sidewalk, and then discover that a sidewalk no longer exists, because there is literally no consistency on Egyptian streets. You have to keep your eyes constantly peeled for any and all changes.

2. Crossing the street is like an arcade game

There’s an arcade game called Frogger where basically the frog has to cross to the other side or else risk falling into the water. Crossing the street in Egypt is exactly like this. You have to risk your life while crossing or else you didn’t really cross an Egyptian street! You have to hand it to us, we lead a life of danger!

3. People water the streets… profusely

Some people like to take a hose and water the street; it happens. But when huge puddles form and you basically find yourself ankle deep in water, then there’s a problem!

4. Beware of random hills of sand

Sand is a necessary component for construction work. Egyptian construction workers like to leave it lying around anywhere. On the side of the road, on the entirety of the sidewalk. They generally enjoy creating blockages and making our pedestrian life more difficult.

5. You can get stuck in a wall of cars

This comes with bumper to bumper parking. If for some reason you make the decision to walk on the side walk, it might be a long while before you can find a way to get past a sea of parked cars to cross to the other side!

6. There are no pedestrian crossings!

For some reason, a country with over 90 million people in its populace found that not having pedestrian crossings was a great idea. *face palm*

7. There are a lot of people in general

And because we’ve got 90 million people, walking is a lot more difficult. We have to learn to maneuver and pass through a large crowd in a matter of minutes. This is just a necessary skill of being Egyptian.

Good luck to all you pedestrians!
